Making The Most Of Academic Resources

College classes can be demanding. (We are prepping for actual careers, after all!) So it’s no surprise that many students are looking for a little extra help in the form of tutoring and success strategies. Fortunately, UCA is all about student support. Here are a few on-campus options to help you nail the material, write the paper and ace the test.

Writing Center

The Center for Writing and Communication is available to guide students through the composing process for any writing or communication project, in any class, at any stage of the process. Basically, if it has to do with words, they’re ready to help! Use the online scheduler (instructions here) to set up a 30-minute tutoring session. They offer face-to-face tutoring and email sessions, plus online resources like tip sheets and guides to MLA, APA and Chicago style.

Math Resource Lab

Anyone in a mathematics course – math major or not – can study and receive free tutoring at the Math Resource Lab. You don’t need to make an appointment, either. Just drop by the first floor and sign in, then ask your question, use a computer or join a group study session. Tutors are already in the lab throughout most of the day, or check out the tutoring schedule on the door. Math Lab features include:

  • Large tables with ample work space

  • Computers with MyMathLab and MyStatLab software

  • Dry erase walls for practicing problems

  • Graduate students and faculty to answer questions

  • Open 8am to 8pm
